Fall is amazing for so many reasons. but from a fitness perspective, it's my favourite time of the year. After the sweet days of summer are over, I always feel refreshed and ready to crush my goals within the next few months.
Fall is also the perfect time for you as well to get in tip top shape! Your social schedule might be busier during the summer which leads to more going out and less time in the gym. Now that the kids are back in school, time to get back at it.
The weather change can be a little tricky to handle, so check out these 5 tricks I do each fall, they've helped me a lot in the past and I'm sure they can help you as well.
1. Reassess your goals
You are full of energy after the fun summer season! The time to crush your goals is now. What did you want to do before summer started, or what did you think about during summer? Get that goal in your head and go get it! Read this to learn how to set your goals properly.
2. Simplify you food
Summer brings around all sort of exotic new foods. Hell, I go out almost every week trying something new during that time, or I go out and buy all those fun summer fruits. But when the fall is here, there's less variety in the grocery stores and the weather isn't as ideal for going out.
So keep it in house! Meal prep you week, stay with a few main ingredients and make life easy.
When choosing what to eat, as yourself 3 questions: Can I pick it? Can I dig it? Can I hunt it? If the answer is no to all of them, don't buy/eat it.
If you are going out with friends, load up on veggies and protein before you go, that way you won't be tempted to over eat or indulge too much. You can still have fun foods, but keep it under control.
3. Try something new
Mix it up! Try a new class, try a new workout routine, ask you buddy what his/her friends do and give it a shot. Mixing up your routine will help you focus more and avoid getting bored of your regular training.
4. Get more sleep
Shorter days mean more dark time, perfect to cozy up and catch up on our sleep. Summer is so enticing when it comes to staying up late and having fun. But now it's so nice to go to bed earlier when night falls earlier.
5. Partner up
You will find that there are a lot of motivated people at this time of the year. Find a friend to workout with and keep each other accountable.
On top of staying accountable, working out with someone else increases motivation, doubles the brain power to reach goals (they might do things you didn't know about) and gives you back up when you talk back to your trainer when they get too creative with the workouts...
So get out there and get it guys!
